WHAT WE DO

CLASSES & ENSEMBLES

Our group classes and ensembles are a great addition to private lessons. They can help students focus on specific skills and reach their personal musical goals. The classes evolve depending on our students' needs. Please check back here for our class offerings at the beginning of each trimester (spring-January, summer-June, fall-August). Get on our email list so you don't miss the start of classes!

CREATIVE STRINGS WORKSHOP

Mondays: February 2 - February 23
6:30p - 7:30p

This Creative Strings Workshop offers an engaging experience for string students to expand their expressive and creative skills. Through guided improvisation games and collaborative activities, students will explore new ways of making music beyond the written page.

Over the course of the workshop, they’ll develop confidence in musical decision-making and creative risk-taking. The class will culminate in a unique performance of student-led chamber music improvisations.

String students of all ages are welcome. Students should have 6 months experience or completed all Suzuki Twinkle variations & Theme.

KEYBOARD SKILLS OLYMPIAD

Saturday, May 9
10:00a - 2:00p
Cost: $20

The Keyboard Skills Olympiad encourages students to master fundamental keyboard skills. Students enrolled in piano lessons, from the earliest beginner through advanced levels, can collect Gold, Silver, and Bronze seals in this event. The students will prepare from one to eight items with their teachers, and be evaluated by one of the MANC piano faculty. As students earn more Gold seals, from one Olympiad event to the next, they become eligible for additional awards.

An extensive list of these skills includes items such as identifying notes and key signatures and playing scales, arpeggios, triads, and chord progressions. This event will be offered several times each year.

These group classes accompany private lessons in order to increase educational opportunities, provide inspiration, give students a chance to collaborate, and further their musical connections.

VOICE REP CLASSES

Voice students gather to perform for peers and faculty. Students get the opportunity to receive feedback and instruction from other voice teachers as they practice performance techniques in a mini-masterclass format. Additional topics related to music performance and study may also be presented.

PERCUSSION ENSEMBLE

Students meet in either intermediate or advanced classes to collaborate, rehearse, and play together. After the classes, students perform in a Percussion Ensemble Concert.

The Music Academy is proud to partner with Gate City Musikgarten who offers a sequential music education program for children birth through age 11.
