Established in 1982 by the late Ivan Battle, The Music Academy of NC enables students of all ages, interests, abilities, and backgrounds to discover, develop, realize, and express their inherent talents.

We believe that the creative act of engaging with music is a beneficial and important pursuit and we are passionate about sharing it with others.  In teaching and learning, practicing and performing, listening and feeling, expressing and sharing, we make a tremendous difference in the lives of countless individuals.

Throughout our forty-year history, we have offered an exceptional experience because we invest in highly qualified faculty with a wealth of experience in performance and education. In turn, our passionate teachers engage with each student to foster his or her musical and personal development, regardless of age, ability, or ambition.

Programs and activities take new shape each year to best reflect the expertise of our artist faculty and the needs of our students.  While private lessons are our core, we offer group classes, ensembles, summer camps, recitals, recording services, adult specific programming, masterclasses, workshops, and more.

Committed to reaching beyond our walls, we take a proactive approach to bringing musical development to our community. The Music Academy’s Lessons for Life Outreach Program includes all programs and activities designed to remove barriers that may prevent an individual's access to music.

We provide financial assistance for private music study and many programs at no cost including children’s concerts at Title 1 schools, a Children's Summer Concert Series at The Music Academy, instrument demonstrations throughout the community to provide a hands-on experience for all ages, in-school sectionals in partnership with the Guilford County School music programs, and faculty and student performances in Greensboro retirement communities.

Through partnerships with schools and retirement communities, performances in diverse public venues, grant-funded educational programming to underprivileged populations, and more, we are a meaningful presence in our city, county, and beyond.

Through the combined efforts of our board, staff, and faculty, we achieve our goal to provide a high-quality music education to those who seek it and inspire others to become aware of the creative possibilities within themselves. Our board of directors oversee the general direction of our organization; the board and senior administration ensure MANC is meeting the goals of its strategic plan and adhering to its core values centered around quality, community, access, opportunity, outreach, and creativity; and our faculty and staff make it all possible through their ability to spark the imagination, nurture and develop the creative spirit, and inspire artistic expression at every age.
