Q&A ABOUT THE MUSIC INDUSTRY
Grammy-winning singer Nathan Gunn has made over 30 recordings during his career, a dozen DVDs of works ranging from Prokofiev’s War and Peace to Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Carousel, and has been the leading man in over 15 world premieres. As a concert artist, he’s been heard around the world singing with musical theatre’s greatest stars. He is best known for his portrayal of Papageno in Julie Taymor’s production of Mozart’s “The Magic Flute” at the Metropolitan Opera, Billy Bigelow in John Rando’s production of “Carousel” and Lancelot in Lonny Price’s production of “Camelot” both with the New York Philharmonic. Recent highlights include the role of Max von Mayerling in “Sunset Boulevard” at the Kennedy Center, the role of Emile DeBeque in “South Pacific” with the Indianapolis Pops, and directing the world premiere of Ilya Demutsky’s absurdist comic opera “Black Square” at the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts where Nathan is co-director of Lyric Theatre @ Illinois. Nathan is the Swanlund Professor of Music at the University of Illinois.
